Condition

Some customers may comment that the CD player will not operate. The customer comment may be one of the following conditions:

    • Unable to load a CD
    • Unable to eject a CD
    • CD will not play when already loaded in player

However, if the customer states that the CD will play, but poorly, refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 05-08-44-001 for additional information to be shared with the customer.

Cause

The CD mechanism may have lost communication with the main radio circuit board, which may not allow recognition of CD player button inputs. This condition may have occurred due to either the CD player not being able to be read a poor quality CD or the CD laser head physically getting lost due to vehicle vibrations that cause the CD laser head to move.

Correction

Remove both of the radio fuses from the fuse block (one fuse is for radio battery [B+] and the other fuse is the radio ignition fuse).

Leave the fuses removed for 10 minutes with the key OFF and then reinstall the fuses.

If CD function is not restored, replace the radio. If there is media stuck in the CD player, refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-44-015 for additional form to include with the returned radio.

Refer to following chart on fuse locations for each year and model:
