Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the vehicle.
  2. Clean the cooler line connection points at the radiator and transmission.

  3. Object Number: 873611  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the radiator.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the transmission cooler line assembly nut from the transmission.

  7. Object Number: 868017  Size: SH
  8. Remove the transmission cooler lines from the vehicle.
  9. Replace the transaxle oil cooler pipe seals. Refer to Fluid Cooler Pipe Seal Replacement

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 868017  Size: SH
  1. Install the cooler line assembly to the transmission.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the cooler line retaining nut at the transmission.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the lines to 7 N·m (62 lb in).


    Object Number: 873611  Size: SH
  5. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the radiator.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

    Important: Do not use ATF P/N 21005966 or P/N 21019223, these fluids are not compatible with this transmission. Use Saturn P/N 22689186.

  7. Add fluid to the transmission as necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  8. Start the engine a check for leaks.
