Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor Replacement Sedan

Removal Procedure

    Caution: When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling . Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS). Before applying power to the SIS make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedures could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling or to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Move the seat to the full forward position.
  3. Remove the lower trim panel from the center pillar. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the harness connector on the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS).
  5. Disconnect the harness connector from the SIS.
  6. Loosen the SIS mounting fasteners.
  7. Remove the SIS from the center pillar by sliding the SIS up and out of the keyholes in the sheet metal.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surface.

  2. Object Number: 876618  Size: SH
  3. Install the SIS to the center pillar by sliding the sensor fasteners into the keyhole in the sheet metal.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the SIS mounting fasteners.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 7.5 N·m (66 lb in).

  7. Install the harness connector to the SIS.
  8. Install the CPA to the SIS harness connector.
  9. Install the lower trim panel to the center pillar. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  10. Move the seat to the original position.
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling or to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

  3. Peel back the door water deflector far enough to expose the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS).
  4. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the harness connector on the SIS.
  5. Disconnect the harness connector from the SIS.
  6. Loosen the SIS mounting fasteners.
  7. Remove the SIS from the door by sliding the SIS up and out of the keyholes in the sheet metal.
