Circuit/System Description

The rear compartment lid latch is controlled by the body control module (BCM). The BCM supplies battery positive voltage to the trunk release motor control circuit when the keyfob trunk release button is pressed. When the rear compartment lid release motor control circuit is shorted to ground while the BCM is commanding the rear compartment lid latch ON, DTC B3267 is set or if the BCM detects a short to voltage in the trunk release motor control circuit, DTC B3268 will set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage must be between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B3267

This DTC will set when the BCM detects a low voltage level in the supply circuit of the Trunk Release Motor Control circuit.

DTC B3268

This DTC will set when the BCM detects a short to voltage in the supply circuit of the Trunk Release Motor Control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The BCM stores the DTC to memory.
    • The rear compartment lid latch will malfunction.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC will change from current to history when the fault is no longer present.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
    • The technician issues a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.

Diagnostic Aids

    • If the trunk motor control circuit is shorted to ground and the rear compartment lid latch is commanded ON, the BCM (PWR) fuse will open.
    • If the trunk release motor control circuit is shorted to battery positive voltage, the rear compartment lid will not latch closed.

Circuit/System Verification

Command the Trunk Release with a scan tool. The Rear Compartment Lid Release Actuator should release the trunk lid.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector 4 at the Rear Compartment Lid Latch.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the Rear Compartment Lid Latch ground circuit terminal 3 and ground
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  5. Command the Trunk Release ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  6. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always OFF and the circuit fuse is good, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always OFF and the circuit fuse is open, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the Rear Compartment Lid Latch.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the Rear Compartment Lid Latch.

Component Testing

Rear Compartment Lid Release Actuator

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the Rear Compartment Lid Release Actuator.
  2. Install a 15-amp fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 4 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between the ground circuit terminal 3 and ground. Verify the rear compartment lid release actuator activates.
  3. If the actuator does not perform as specified, replace the rear compartment lid release actuator.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
