The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that the ignition key may bind or may be stuck or difficult to remove from the ignition lock cylinder when the ignition is OFF and the shift select lever is in PARK. This condition may be caused by the current adjustment of the shifter cable combined with normal variation in the PARK position of the shift select lever.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Do NOT replace shift control assembly.

Press the shift select lever forward slightly, and then try to remove the key from the ignition lock cylinder. If key releases, then adjust shifter cable to remove slack. Refer to "Shift Control Cable Adjustment" (SI Document ID # 1655765) or the appropriate Saturn ION Service Manual.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
