Subject: | Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) Connector Does Not Mate With Replacement SDM -- Replace Terminal Retainer and Reprogram Body Control Module (BCM) |
Models: | All 2000 Saturn L-Series Vehicles |
Replacement SDM will not mate with the instrument panel harness connector due to a change in configuration of the terminal retainer.
This condition is caused by the replacement SDM terminal retainer having a different configuration than the original terminal retainer.
Replace the SDM body harness terminal retainer and reprogram the BCM.
Caution: Be careful when you handle a sensing and diagnostic
module (SDM). Do not strike or jolt the SDM before applying power to the SDM:
• Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface. • Position the SDM horizontally on the mounting surface. • Tighten all the SDM fasteners and SDM bracket fasteners to the specified
torque value.
Notice: If sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) is dropped or shows any sign of damage, it must be replaced.
Notice: Prior to removing sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), the ignition key must be in the OFF position.
Notice: Do not open the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) case for any reason. Touching the connector pins or soldered components may cause electrostatic discharge damage. Repair of a faulty SDM is by replacement only.
Tighten:
Tighten the SDM retaining nuts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
Tighten:
Tighten the console screws to 1.2 N·m
(11 lb in).
Important: Once the replacement SDM has been installed it is necessary to reprogram the BCM in order for the BCM to recognize the part number of the replacement SDM. Refer to BCM Programming in the Service Programming System section of the Service Stall System (SSS)/Tech 2 User Guide.
