MIL Service Engine Soon Telltale On with DTC P0333 - Knock Sensor 2 High Frenquency, Engine Hesitation, and/or Vehicle Lacks Power

Some customers may comment of engine lacking power when accelerating from a stop and/or engine hesitation while driving. This condition may also be associated with a DTC P0333.

Some vehicles may experience the knock sensor or engine bank 2 interpreting normal engine vibrations and frequencies as spark knock which will cause the ECM to retard engine timing.

Follow the diagnostic procedure for DTC P0333 located in the Engine/Emission Controls section of the 2000 L-Series L81 Engine Service Manual. After DTC P0333 diagnostics have been performed and any repairs completed, use the Tech 2 to verify what ECM calibration is currently in the ECM.

The ECM Calibration ID can be viewed on the Tech 2 by performing the following:

1. Navigate to the 3.0L Powertrain Menu.
2. Select ID INFORMATION.
3. Select ENGINE INFORMATION.

•	If ECM Calibration is 02610601, reprogram with Revised Production Calibration detailed in this bulletin. (Refer to "Service Programming System" in the Saturn Service Stall System (SSS) User Guide for reprogramming procedures.)

•	If ECM Calibration is not 02610601, do not reprogram ECM because the ECM already has a calibration installed to address this condition.

To receive credit for this repair during the warranty coverage period, submit a claim through the Saturn Dealer System for J6355 (EE PROM Reprogramming). If another procedure is performed, refer to the appropriate Electronic Labor Time Guide for the correct Labor Operation Code and Time. When another procedure is performed that requires EE PROM Reprogramming, J6355 must be claimed as a "related line" to that repair.
