A/C System PAG Oil Accumulation at Set Screw on Rear Head of A/C Compressor

Subject:A/C System PAG Oil Accumulation at Set Screw on Rear Head of A/C Compressor (Wipe Off Excess Oil at Set Screw)

Models:1999-2000 Saturn S-Series vehicles equipped with A/C (RPO code C60)
All 2000 Saturn L-Series vehicles

Condition

During pre-delivery inspection (PDI) at Saturn Retailers, a small amount of A/C system PAG oil may be noticed at the rear head of the A/C compressor around the bottom of set screw (refer to illustration in this bulletin). This may also be present on service replacement compressors.

Cause

An excessive amount of PAG oil may have been used to lubricate the set screw O-ring during installation of set screw into the rear head of the A/C compressor. This accumulation of PAG oil from assembly is not an indication of an A/C system leak.

Correction

Wipe off excess PAG oil at the set screw location on the rear of the A/C compressor if necessary.
