    • J43652 Valve Spring Compressor Adapter
    • SA9102E-A Valve Guide Seal Remover
    • SA9124E Valve Spring Compressor

  1. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds:
  2. 1.1. Remove the spark plugs.
    1.2. Remove the intake and exhaust manifold studs.
    1.3. If the studs are not damaged, clean the threads and install on the replacement head.

    Tighten

        • Tighten the intake manifold studs to 6 N·m (56 lb in).
        • Tighten the exhaust manifold stud to 25 N·m (8 lb ft).

    Important: Replace the fuel injector O-ring seals upon replacement of the fuel rail.

  3. Remove the fuel rail bolts and lift the fuel rail straight out. Discard the fuel injector O-ring seals.

    Important: Ensure that the valve train components are kept together and identified in order for proper installation in their original position.

  5. Remove the camshafts, followers, and lash adjusters.

  7. Compress the valve spring using the SA9124E and the J43652 .
  8. Remove the valve keys.
  9. Slowly release the valve spring compressor from the valve spring assembly.
  10. Remove the valve spring retainers.

  12. Remove the valve springs.

  13. Object Number: 895158  Size: SH
  14. Remove the valve seal using the SA9102E-A and discard.

  15. Object Number: 895168  Size: SH

    Notice: Do not damage the valve guide. Remove any burrs that have formed at the key groove by chamfering the valve stem with an oil stone or a file.

  16. Remove the valves.

  18. Clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to "Cylinder Head Clean and Inspect (Unit Repair)" procedure in this section of the service manual.
  19. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and gasket surface. Refer to "Cylinder Head and Gasket Surface Clean and Inspect (Unit Repair)" procedure in this section of the service manual.
