Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 891840  Size: SH

    Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the rear wheel and the tire assembly.
  3. Disconnect the brake pipe at the rear wheel cylinder. Plug the open brake pipes to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Disassemble the rear drum brake assembly. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  6. Remove the wheel cylinder fastener and remove the wheel cylinder.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the new wheel cylinder onto the backing plate with a fastener.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel cylinder-to-backing plate bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  3. Connect the brake pipe onto the wheel cylinder.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe-to-rear wheel cylinder to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  5. Completely assemble the rear drum brake assembly. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  6. Notice: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors/drums. Failure to do so can cause wheel nuts to loosen in service.

  7. Position the wheel and the tire assembly onto the hub.
  8. Install the wheel bolts and tighten in a crisscross pattern
  9. 5.1. Hand tighten all 5 wheel bolts.
    5.2. Use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel bolts using a crisscross pattern.

    Tighten
    Tighten the wheel bolts (initial torque) to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).

    5.3. Use a torque wrench to final tighten the wheel bolts using a crisscross pattern.

    Tighten
    Tighten the wheel bolts (final torque) to 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

  10. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
  11. Bleed the brakes. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
