Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 898005 Size: SH

    Important: This seat belt assembly is for use only in the rear seat center position on the Saturn L-Series Sedan.

  1. Remove the rear seat center shoulder belt from the buckle.
  2. Pull on the rear seat cushion retainer straps while pulling up on the rear seat cushion to disengage the rear seat cushion from the floor.

  3. Remove the rear seat cushion from the vehicle.

    4. Object Number: 896621 Size: SH
  4. Remove the rear seat bolster.
    5. • Reach down into the corner of the rear seat cushion to expose the retaining tab.
    • Bend the bolster retaining tab upward.
    • Lower the rear seat back.
    • Starting at the bottom, pull forward to disengage the bolster from the retaining tab, then pull upward to disengage the upper attachment.

  5. Remove the rear seat shoulder belt upper fastener cover to expose the rear seat shoulder belt upper fastener.
  6. Remove the shoulder belt upper fastener.

  7. Slide the shoulder belt out of the C-pillar trim panel slot.

    8. Object Number: 897964 Size: SH
  8. Remove the rear window trim finish panel.
  9. Slide the belt webbing through the slot in the rear window trim finish panel.

    10. Object Number: 897977 Size: SH
  10. Remove the rear seat shoulder belt retractor fastener and remove the retractor.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Loctite Threadlocker on Restraint Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the rear seat shoulder belt retractor and fastener to the vehicle.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat shoulder belt retractor to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  2. Slide the belt webbing through the slot in the rear window trim finish panel.
  3. Install the rear window trim finish panel.

    4. Object Number: 896217 Size: SH
  4. Route the rear seat belt through the C-pillar trim panel slot.
  5. Install the C-pillar trim panel.

    6. Object Number: 896224 Size: SH
  6. Install the rear seat belt shoulder belt to the C-pillar.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the rear seat belt shoulder belt-to-C-pillar to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  7. Install the rear seat shoulder belt upper fastener cover.

    Caution: Make sure the rear seat shoulder belt is not caught behind the bolster when installing the bolster.

  8. Install the rear seat bolster.
    9. • Position the bolster onto the upper bolster attachment.
    • Push down on the bolster to engage the upper attachment and push the bolster back over the retaining tab.
    • Bend the retaining tab down to the fastener's bolster.
    • Raise the rear seat back.

  9. Position the rear seat cushion into the vehicle.

  10. Route the center seat belt through the seat cushion
  11. Snap the rear seat cushion into the attaching retainers.
  12. Pull up on the seat to ensure the seat is properly installed.

    13. Object Number: 898004 Size: SH
  13. Install the rear seat center shoulder belt into the buckle.

    14. Notice: Ensure the safety belt label is pointing to the release button, and that both are facing the front of the vehicle. Ensure the belt is not twisted. Push and pull on the latch plate to be sure it is secure.

  14. Function the rear seat shoulder belt to ensure proper operation.
