Roof Side Rail Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement Sedan

Removal Procedure


Object Number: 898001  Size: MF

       Caution: The SIR system should be disabled before removal of the inflator. The inflator must be disposed of properly. All interior garnish molding snap-in clips must be replaced when the trim is removed from the vehicle. Twisting of the inflator must not be allowed.

    • Disable the SIR system.
    • Remove the headliner and garnish moldings from the vehicle.
        Refer to Headliner removal procedure.

       Important: Clips and plastic guides must be removed from the structure. Clips are designed for one use only. The new inflator assembly will contain new clips and plastic guides attached to the assembly.

    • Remove the fasteners from the inflator retention tabs and clips-to-structure in locations shown in the illustration.

Installation Procedure

  1. Unpack the new inflator assembly. Start at the rear of the vehicle and install the inflator head to the structure mounting studs.
  2. Finger start unto the studs.

  3. Object Number: 898001  Size: MF
  4. Working from the rear of the vehicle forward, install the retaining tabs to the structure to hold the inflator assembly to the vehicle. The stripe on the inflator module should be used as a guide to insure the inflator is not twisted.

  5. Object Number: 897999  Size: SH
  6. Install the inflator fasteners and the torque fasteners.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the Inflator Fasteners to 5 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Install the headliner and the garnish moldings from the vehicle.
  9. Refer to Headliner.

  10. Enable the SIR system.
  11. Refer to Refer to Disabling the SIR System and Enabling the SIR System .
