Important: If you disconnect either side high beam headlight with the ignition ON, the headlights will not operate when you reconnect the connector until you cycle the key.

Symptom

Procedure

The low beam headlights are inoperative. The high beam headlights are OK.

Disconnect the headlight/turn switch connector. Probe circuit 1201 BLU with a test lamp-to-ground. Does the lamp light? If yes, there is a faulty headlight/turn switch. If no, there is an open circuit 1201.

The high beam headlights are inoperative. The low beam headlights are OK.

Disconnect the headlight/turn switch connector. Probe circuit 1200 PNK with a test lamp-to-ground. Does the lamp light? If yes, there is a faulty headlight/turn switch. If no, there is an open circuit 1200.

The high and low beam headlights are inoperative.

Check circuit 550 at the headlight switch for an open. If OK, there is a faulty headlight switch.

The high beam indicator does not operate.

Cluster test using the Tech 2. If the high beam indicator does not work with the cluster test, there is a faulty cluster. Refer to the I/P section of this service manual.

The right high beam headlight and DRL are inoperative.

Check the right high beam headlight for an open element. If OK, check for an open circuit 593 or 1200 circuit.

The left high beam headlight and DRL are inoperative.

Check the left high beam headlight for an open element. If OK, check for open circuit 40 or open circuit 1200.

The DRL is ON with the headlight switch ON, and the dimmer switch is in the low position.

Using the scan tool, observe the high beam input. If the voltage is between 6-8 volts, disconnect the BCM connector J3 (PNK 24 way) using a DVOM. Check CKT 592, BLK/GRN wire, for a short to ground. If OK, there is a faulty BCM.

The DRL is inoperative. The high beam indicator is ON with the headlight switch in any position.

Disconnect the BCM connector J1. Probe circuit 1200 with a test lamp to B+. Turn the headlight switch ON, with the dimmer switch in the high beam position. Does the lamp light? If no, there is an open circuit 1200. If yes, there is a faulty connection or BCM.

The DRL lamps do not turn OFF with the park brake applied.

Disconnect the BCM connector J2. Probe circuit 1134 with a test lamp to B+. Apply the parking brake. Does the lamp light? If no, there is an open circuit 1134. If yes, there is a faulty connection or BCM.
