Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide service information regarding proper tools for removal and installation of oil filter cap on all 2000 - 2001 Saturn L-Series vehicles equipped with 2.2L 4 cylinder (L61) engines. Proper tool must be used for removal and installation in order to prevent damage to oil filter cap resulting in an oil leak.
Service Procedure
The oil filter cap has two features that can be used for removal and installation purposes:
| • | 32 mm hex molded into top of the oil filter cap. |
| • | 14 flat feature incorporated into the outer rim of the cap, the diameter of the flats is 68 mm. |
| Notice: If adjustable or open end wrench is used on the 32 mm hex feature, damage to oil filter cap can result causing oil leak. There are two acceptable tools that may be used for removal and installation of oil filter cap. |
| • | 32 mm socket for hex feature |
| • | Cap style oil filter wrench for 14 flat feature on rim of oil filter cap. |
