Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to update all 2000 and 2001 L-Series L61 Engine Service Manuals at your location.

Please obtain all 2000 and 2001 L-Series L61 Engine Service Manuals and make the update as indicated below.

  1. Using a marker or pen, cross out the existing "Timing Balance Shafts to Engine (Unit Repair)"procedure on the following pages:
  2. • Page 645 in the 2000 L-Series L61 Engine Service Manual.
    • Page 648 in the 2001 L-Series L61 Engine Service Manual.
  3. Next to the items crossed out in step 1, write the following:
  4. "Refer to Technical Information Bulletin 02-T-00"

  5. Make photocopies of page 2 of this bulletin.
  6. Insert photocopy of page 2 between the following pages:
  7. • Pages 644 and 645 in the 2000 L-Series L61 Engine Service Manual.
    • Pages 648 and 649 in the 2001 L-Series L61 Engine Service Manual.

Timing Balance Shafts To Engine (Unit Repair)


    Object Number: 895005  Size: SH

    Important: If balance shafts are not properly timed to engine, engine may vibrate or make noise.

  1. Install balance shaft drive chain with colored links lined up with marks on balance shaft drive sprockets and crankshaft sprocket. Use the following procedure to line up links with sprockets:
  2. 1.1. Orient chain so that copper colored and chrome links are visible.
    1.2. Place copper colored link (1) so that it lines up with timing mark on intake side balance shaft sprocket.
    1.3. Working clockwise around chain, place first chrome link (2) in line with timing mark on crankshaft drive sprocket (approximately 6 o'clock position on crank sprocket).
    1.4. Place chain around the water pump drive sprocket.
    1.5. Align last chrome link (3) with timing mark on exhaust side balance shaft drive sprocket.
  3. Install balance shaft drive chain tensioner. Refer to "Balance Shaft Drive Chain and Tensioner (Unit Repair)" installation procedure in the applicable model year L-Series L61 Engine Service Manual.
