Removal Procedure

  1. Record the preset radio stations.
  2. Important: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100%. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.

  3. Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.
  4. Turn the ignition OFF.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Disconnect the PCM J1 and J2 harness connectors.
  7. Release the 2 retaining clips on the forward edge of the PCM mounting brackets.
  8. Remove the PCM by lifting forward edge of PCM and slide towards front of vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Slide the PCM into the rear lip of the PCM bracket.
  2. Push down on the PCM until the two retaining clips are secure.
  3. Connect the PCM J1 and J2 harness connectors.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Important: If a new PCM is being installed, it MUST be reprogrammed with new software and calibrations. Refer to "Service Stall System (SSS) User Guide" reprogramming procedures. The PCM may be damaged if the reprogramming process is interrupted. Make sure the scan tool is connected securely to the DLC and the vehicle battery has a sufficient charge.

    Make sure the new PCM has the correct VIN and vehicle options.

  7. Reprogram the PCM. Refer to "Service Stall System (SSS) User Guide" for reprogramming procedures.
  8. Important: The new PCM must learn the passlock password from the PCM. When the PCM reprogram is completed, use the SSS to perform the Passlock Relearn Procedure.

  9. Perform the Passlock Relearn Procedure using the SSS.
  10. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds, then turn the ignition ON.
  11. Important: Following the PCM reprogramming , the PCM will have to learn the crankshaft notch variation for misfire diagnostics.

  12. Perform the crankshaft relearn procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
  13. Verify no DTCs exist. If one exists, refer to the specific diagnostic in this section of the service manual.
  14. Reset the clock and preset radio stations.
