Throttle Body Assembly Cleaning and Inspection

The throttle bore and the valve deposits may be cleaned on-vehicle using carburetor clean, Saturn P/N 21007432, and a shop towel. Follow the instructions on the container. Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, and extremely strong solvent that is not necessary for removing this type of deposit.

Important: Shiny spots on the pintle or seat are normal and do not indicate misalignment or a bent pintle shaft.

Important: If the air passage has heavy deposits, remove the throttle body for complete cleaning.

  1. Remove and clean the IAC valve O-ring sealing surface, pintle valve seat, and air passage, if necessary.
  2. 1.1. Use a carburetor cleaner and a parts cleaning brush to remove carbon deposits.
1.2. Follow the instructions on the container. Do not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, an extremely strong solvent that is not necessary for this type of deposit.

Important: If installing a new IAC valve, be sure to replace with an identical part. IAC valve pintle shape and diameter are designed for the specific application.

  3. Inspect the IAC valve O-ring for cuts, cracks, or distortion. Replace if damaged.
