Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Position the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Caution: Refer to Gasoline/Gasoline Vapors Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Caution: Refer to Relieving Fuel Pressure Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief procedure in this section.
  6. Raise the vehicle to a comfortable working height.
  7. Caution: Refer to Relieving Fuel Pressure Caution in the Preface section.

    Important: The fuel filter is located on the underbody at the forward edge of the right-side of the fuel tank.

  8. Remove the fuel filter bracket screw (10 mm hex).
  9. Disconnect the fuel feed lines at the inlet and outlet side of the fuel filter.
  10. Slide the fuel filter out of fuel filter bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Slide the fuel filter into the bracket.
  2. Important: Replace plastic fuel line retainers whenever the fuel supply or return line is disconnected at the fuel rail. Install the new retainer into the female cavity of the connection. Care must be taken to ensure that the locking tab is centered in the window of the female cavity. Firmly press the female connection onto the male end until a click is heard, then pull back to confirm engagement. Pinched, kinked, or damaged fuel lines must be replaced.

  3. Install new fuel line retainers into the female portion of the quick connect fuel line fittings.
  4. Important: Lubricate male ends of filter with clean engine oil to ease installation and "SNAP" closed.

  5. Connect the fuel feed lines to the fuel filter inlet and outlet.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install the filter bracket attachment screw.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel filter bracket screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  11. Prime the fuel system.
  12. 6.1. Cycle the ignition ON for 5 seconds and then OFF for 10 seconds.
    6.2. Repeat the previous step twice.
    6.3. Crank the engine until it starts. The maximum starter motor cranking time is 20 seconds.
    6.4. If the engine does not start, repeat steps 6.1-6.3.
  13. Run the engine and inspect the system for leaks.
