Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Remove the rear wheel and the tire assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Drive out the brake pad retaining pins from the outside to the inside, and remove the pins and the retaining spring.

  4. Object Number: 891851  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake pads.
  6. Inspect the brake pad retaining pins for deterioration or damage. If damaged, replace.
  7. Inspect the brake pad retaining spring for deterioration or damage. If damaged, replace.
  8. Inspect the brake caliper piston seal for leakage or damage. If damaged, overhaul the caliper.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 891853  Size: SH

    Important: Never replace the brake pads on one side of the axle only. The left and right side brake pads must be replaced only as axle sets.

  1. Install the new brake pads into the caliper.
  2. Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the retaining pins.
  3. Important: Check to ensure the brake pads move freely in the guide.

  4. Install the brake pad retaining spring, and drive the brake pad retaining pins in from the inside outward.
  5. Caution: Refer to Wheel Installation Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Position the wheel and tire assembly onto the hub.
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
  9. Caution: Refer to Failure to Depress Brake Caution in the Preface section.

  10. Prior to operating the vehicle, depress the brake a few times until the brake pads are seated against the rotor.
