High or low oil level

Add or remove the oil as required.

Transaxle wiring harness is loose, has damaged pins, or is contaminated.

Inspect the transaxle wiring harness connector, and repair/replace as necessary.

Damaged, sticking, or disconnected throttle position sensor

Inspect the throttle position sensor and harness, and repair/replace as necessary.

Throttle position sensor has an intermittent open or a shorted circuit.

Use a scan tool to check for an intermittent open or short in the TP sensor circuit by monitoring the TP SENSOR while moving the throttle from 0-100 percent. The voltage should change smoothly.

Clogged or restricted oil cooler lines

Inspect the oil cooler lines, and repair/replace as necessary.

Leaking cooler pipe seals

Replace the cooler pipe seals.

Clogged, broken, or loose transaxle fluid filter assembly

Replace the fluid filter and fluid filter seal.

Leaking transaxle fluid filter seal

Replace the transaxle fluid filter and fluid filter seal.

Pressure control solenoid has damaged/leaking O-rings, or is contaminated.

Replace the pressure control solenoid.

Loose connector, or damaged pins on pressure control solenoid

Inspect the pressure control solenoid and harness, and repair/replace as necessary.

Damaged, sticking, porous, or leaking transaxle oil pump assembly

Inspect the transaxle oil pump assembly, and replace as necessary.

Damaged oil pump drive shaft

Replace the oil pump drive shaft.

Damaged spring or missing checkball in pressure relief valve.

Replace the oil pump.

Pressure regulator valve stuck.

Inaccurate/inconsistent shift points

Shift cable disconnected or misadjusted

Inspect the cable, and repair or readjust.

Lo/reverse band anchor pin broken

Replace the anchor pin.

Oil feed tube assembly broken, bent, or plugged

Inspect the oil feed tube assembly, and repair/replace as necessary.

Missing or leaking oil feed tube assembly seals

Replace the seals as needed.

Lo/reverse servo piston broken or binding

Inspect the lo/reverse servo piston, and repair/replace as necessary.

Lo/reverse servo piston seals leaking

Replace the piston/seal as necessary.

Servo pin and springs binding

Inspect the servo pin and springs, and repair/replace as necessary.

Lo/Reverse servo cover broken, loose, or leaking

Inspect the lo/reverse servo cover, and repair/replace as necessary.

#1 checkball missing, no low band fluid

Replace the #1 checkball.

Manual valve and manual valve to detent lever link disconnected or misaligned

Connect or realign the manual valve.

Possible porosity, fluid leak across channels, misalignment, damage, or fluid restriction in control valve body assembly, gaskets, and channel plate

Driven sprocket support seals leaking

Worn friction material or broken splines on reverse clutch plates

Replace the fiber plates, and inspect the steel plates. Replace as necessary.

Reverse clutch snap ring out of position

Inspect/re-position the snap ring and housing, and replace the faulty components.

Reverse clutch housing is cracked, has plugged feed holes, or broken tangs

Inspect the reverse clutch housing, and repair/replace as necessary.

Reverse clutch housing exhaust checkball missing or out of position

Inspect the housing for checkball, and repair/replace as necessary.

Reverse clutch spring and retainer assembly binding

Inspect the spring assembly, and repair/replace as necessary.

Fluid leak or restriction in reverse clutch fluid routing

Replace the seal rings on the oil feed tubes.

Leaking drive switch O-ring on TFP manual valve position switch assembly.

Replace the O-ring.

1-2 shift solenoid failed OFF.

Low oil level may cause slipping in second gear.

Inspect the 1-2 shift solenoid, and repair/replace as necessary.

3-4 shift valve stuck in downshifted position

Replace the 3-4 shift valve.

3-4 accumulator valve stuck

Replace the 3-4 accumulator valve.

Manual valve misaligned in manual third gear

Inspect the manual valve, and replace as necessary.

Differential and final drive assembly failure or lack of lube

Replace the differential and final drive assembly, and check the lube passages.

Worn, loose, or failed axle shafts

Replace the axle shafts.

Loss of power

Fluid level low

Add any transaxle fluid.

1-2 shift solenoid stuck OFF

Replace the 1-2 shift solenoid.

2-3 shift solenoid stuck ON

Replace the 2-3 shift solenoid.

TCC is stuck ON or dragging

Check the TCC system, and replace the faulty components.

Contaminated or damaged torque converter assembly

Replace the torque converter.

Engine stall

TCC is stuck ON or is dragging.

Check the TCC system, and replace the faulty components.

TCC solenoid is stuck ON.

Replace the TCC control PWM solenoid.

TCC solenoid exhaust is plugged.

Replace the TCC control PWM solenoid.

TCC regulated apply valve stuck in apply position.

Replace the apply valve.

First and second gear only

2-3 shift solenoid valve stuck OFF

Replace the 2-3 shift solenoid.

2-3 shift solenoid leaking

Replace the 2-3 shift solenoid.

2-3 shift solenoid has an electrical malfunction

2-3 shift valve stuck in downshifted position

Direct clutch failed, released

Inspect the direct clutch and direct clutch circuit, and replace the faulty components.

Third and fourth gear only

2-3 shift solenoid valve stuck ON

Replace the 2-3 shift solenoid.

2-3 shift solenoid is plugged.

Inspect the 2-3 shift solenoid, and repair/replace as necessary.

2-3 shift solenoid has an electrical malfunction.

Replace the 2-3 shift solenoid.

1-2 and 3-4 shift valves stuck in an upshifted position

Inspect the 1-2 and 3-4 shift valves, and replace as necessary.

First and fourth gear only

1-2 shift solenoid stuck ON

Replace the 1-2 shift solenoid.

1-2 shift solenoid is plugged.

Inspect the control valve body to determine if flushing, realignment, tightening, or replacement is needed.

Lo/reverse servo not applied

Inspect the lo/reverse servo and circuit, and replace faulty components.

TFP manual valve position switch assembly leaking or inoperative

Inspect the TFP manual valve position switch assembly, and replace as necessary.

#1 checkball missing

Replace the #1 checkball.

Coast clutch not applied

Refer to No Engine Braking: All Manual Ranges.

Drives in neutral

Manual valve and manual valve to detent lever link misaligned

Inspect the manual valve to detent lever link, and repair/replace as necessary.

Forward clutch not releasing

Inspect the forward clutch, and repair/replace the components as necessary.

Reverse clutch and lo/reverse servo, drives in reverse, not releasing

Inspect the reverse clutch and lo/reverse servo, and repair/replace as necessary.

No gear selection

Shift cable disconnected

Connect the shift cable.

Manual valve to detent lever link broken or missing

Inspect the manual valve to detent lever link, and replace as necessary.

Manual valve to link clip disconnected

Inspect the manual valve to link clip, and repair as necessary.

Manual valve stuck

Inspect the manual valve, and replace as necessary.

Control valve body assembly has blocked fluid channels

Replace the TCC solenoid.

TCC solenoid has an external ground

Check the TCC solenoid electrical circuit, and repair as necessary.

TCC regulated apply valve and TCC control valve stuck in TCC apply position

Inspect the TCC regulated apply valve and TCC control valve. Replace as necessary.

Internal failure of torque converter assembly

Replace the torque converter assembly.

TCC apply with cold engine

Engine coolant temperature sensor malfunction

Inspect the coolant temperature sensor, and repair/replace as necessary.
