Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 896490 Size: SH

    Notice: Rotating steering wheel while it is disconnected from the steering gear may cause damage to SIR coil.

    Notice: If roll connector is not properly oriented to steering column assembly, it will be damaged.

    Important: Always align the front wheels to the straight-ahead position when installing or removing the steering wheel to assure the proper orientation of the roll connector behind the steering wheel.

  1. Remove the lower left I/P closeout panel, hush panel.

    2. Object Number: 891784 Size: SH
  2. Remove the intermediate shaft-to-steering gear pinch bolt.
  3. Remove the intermediate shaft to steering column pinch bolt.
  4. Remove the intermediate shaft from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Use Loctite® Threadlocker, or equivalent on thread of pinch bolt.

  1. Position the intermediate shaft onto the steering column and tighten the pinch bolt.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  2. Install the intermediate shaft onto the steering gear and tighten the pinch bolt.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the intermediate shaft pinch bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  3. Install the lower left I/P closeout panel, hush panel.
