Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Important: Verifying the purity of the refrigerant with a purity identifier before recovery is recommended.

  3. Recover refrigerant using an approved refrigerant recovery system. Measure the amount of oil lost during recovery and record the amount.
  4. Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Raise the vehicle.
  6. Disconnect compressor clutch electrical connector.

    Caution: Do not remove pressure relief valve before system is fully discharged.

    Notice: When servicing the compressor, keep dirt and foreign material from getting on or into the compressor parts and system. Clean tools and clean work area are important for proper service. The compressor connections and the outside of the compressor should be cleaned before any ON CAR repairs, or before removal of the compressor. The parts must be kept clean at all times and any parts to be assembled should be cleaned with a non-petroleum based solvent and dried with air. Use only lint free cloths to wipe parts. Do not allow solvent to enter compressor or hoses.

  8. Remove the pressure relief valve.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Lubricate the pressure relief valve O-ring with mineral oil and install it into the compressor.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure relief valve-to-compressor to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  3. Connect the compressor clutch electrical connector.

  4. Object Number: 878122  Size: SH
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  8. Evacuate, charge, and leak check the A/C system.
  9. Run the A/C performance test.
