Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SRS Sodium Hydroxide Powder Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Important: In the event a deployment has occurred, refer to Repairs and Inspections Required After a Collision .

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .

  2. Object Number: 896832  Size: SH
  3. Remove the I/P compartment.
  4. Important: Do NOT remove the harness on the passenger SIR.

  5. Disconnect the SIR from the vehicle wire harness at the yellow two-way connector.

  6. Object Number: 896807  Size: SH
  7. Remove fasteners securing SIR to the I/P support beam.
  8. Push the SIR rearward and rotate the round end downward.
  9. Remove the SIR from the vehicle through the I/P compartment opening.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 896807  Size: SH

    Important: The harness exits the SIR on the right side of the vehicle.

  1. Insert the SIR through the I/P opening with the vinyl edge up and the harness on the right side of the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 897925  Size: SH

    Important: The harness connected to the SIR must be routed between the round guide pin and the SIR mounting ear.

  3. Insert the SIR guide pins in the I/P brace slots and rotate the round edge upward to align the bolt holes.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the fasteners securing the SIR to the I/P support beam.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in)

  7. Connect the yellow two-way connector to the vehicle wiring harness.
  8. Install the I/P compartment.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
  10. Turn the ignition on and verify that the SIR telltale operates properly.
