Models: | 2002 Saturn L-Series vehicles equipped with V6 (L81) engines and have a serial number earlier than 10ZJ 08578512 |
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide an "Engine Serial Number Inspection" procedure and location of appropriate service procedures.
2002 L-Series vehicles equipped with V6 (L81) engines built prior to November 3, 2001 used the 1st design 2000/2001 timing belt system with an adjustable lower idler assembly. 2002 L-Series vehicles built after November 3. 2001 use a 2nd design timing belt system with a fixed lower idler assembly.
To identify which timing belt system is used, observe the Serial Number Stamp on the engine. Refer to "Engine Serial Number Inspection" in this bulletin.
When performing "Timing Belt Replacement (In-Vehicle)" or "Timing Belt (Unit Repair)" use the appropriate service procedure as determined by the "Engine Serial Number Inspection" procedure in this bulletin.
