Circuit Description

The ECM sends engine RPM information to the TCM via the CAN bus. The ECM also determines if the engine RPM information is reliable or not, and sends that information to the TCM. DTC P0727 sets when the TCM receives an invalid engine RPM signal from the ECM.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC P0727 will set when the engine speed signal is not valid for 2 seconds when:

    • Ignition 1 is between 8-18 volts.
    • The engine speed is between:
       - 200-7,500 RPM for MY 2002
       - 500-7,500 RPM for MY 2003

DTC P0727 diagnostic runs continuously when the above have been met.

DTC P0727 is a type A DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

This code does not indicate a problem with the TCM or transmission. It does not indicate that the ECM is not sending the required information to the TCM.

Check for any DTCs stored in the ECM related to the crank position (CKP) sensor circuit and refer to the appropriate diagnostic in the Engine Controls - L81.

Clear the DTCs in the TCM after the repair is made to the CKP sensor circuit.
