    • J 44015 Linkage Installer
    • SA91100C Tie Rod Separator

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and wheels.

  3. Object Number: 854976  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the outer tie rod to inner tie rod jam nut.
  5. Remove the outer tie rod to steering knuckle prevailing nut. Discard the nut.

  6. Object Number: 854983  Size: SH

    Notice: Do not free the ball stud by using a pickle fork or a wedge-type tool. Damage to the seal or bushing may result.

  7. Using the SA91100C , separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  8. Remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 854987  Size: SH

    Important: The threads of the inner tie rod must be clean and free of debris.

  1. Install the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod.
  2. Connect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.

  3. Object Number: 891579  Size: SH
  4. Seat the ball stud taper in to the steering knuckle by tightening the J 44015 to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Hold the ball stud from turning during installation of the prevailing nut.

  6. Install a new torque prevailing nut to the tie rod ball stud.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Set the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment in Wheel Alignment.
