Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform Saturn retailers about a normal characteristic associated with the initial operation of the A/C compressor. Some customers may comment on a chatter or clicking noise that is produced in the engine compartment during engine start with the A/C or defrost mode selected. This noise is also produced during initial A/C or defrost activation after the engine is running. The initial rotation of the internal components of the compressor during component lubrication and the engagement of the compressor clutch create the noise, which is considered a normal condition. The condition is more noticeable when the engine has not been running for an extended amount of time.

No service is required for this condition. Replacement of the A/C compressor will not correct this condition.
