Circuit Description

The 1-2 shift solenoid valve (1-2 SS Valve) is a normally open exhaust valve that in conjunction with the 2-3 shift solenoid valve (2-3 SS Valve), allows four different shifting combinations. The 2-3 SS Valve is attached to the control valve body, within the transaxle. The PCM monitors the actual gear ratio and compares the actual gear ratio with the commanded gear ratio. DTC P0756 sets under these conditions: A stuck ON or OFF 2-3 SS Valve, or a stuck ON or OFF 2-3 Shift Valve.

When the PCM detects for 4 seconds an actual gear ratio that does not agree with the commanded gear, 4th gear ratio in 1st, and 3rd gear ratio in 2nd, or 2nd gear ratio in 3rd and 1st gear ratio in 4th, then DTC P0756 sets.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • Engine is running
    • Gear range is D4, D3, D2 or D1
    • TP angle is greater than 8%
    • Vehicle speed greater than 8 km/h (5 mph)
    • TP angle is greater than 8%
    • Engine torque greater than 10 ft-lbs
    • Transmission Range is not Park, Reverse, or Neutral
    • No TP Angle DTCs have set

DTC P0756 is a type A DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

    • 2-3 shift solenoid valve - stuck On or Off
    • Plugged or leaking
    • 2-3 shift valve - stuck On or Off
