Tools Required

J 35268-A Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer


    Object Number: 894304 Size: SH

    Important: Do not cover and/or restrict the gasket opening with excess sealant.

  1. Coat the pump side of the new oil pump gasket in the crosshatched areas shown in the illustration with a thin, even coating of anaerobic sealant LOCTITE 518® or equivalent.
  2. Install the oil pump gasket.
  3. Install the oil pump and align with the guide pins.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Apply thread sealant LOCTITE 242® or equivalent to the oil pump bolts and install the bolts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Install the oil pump collar.
  6. Install the front main oil seal. Coat the lip of the front main oil seal with a small amount of clean engine oil to aid in installation.
  7. Use the J 35268-A to install the front main oil seal.
  8. Ensure that the front main oil seal is fully and evenly seated.

  9. Install the crankshaft drive gear.
  10. Install a new crankshaft drive gear bolt.

    11. Tighten

    1. First Pass

      2. Tighten the crankshaft drive gear bolt to 250 N·m (184 lb ft).

    2. Second Pass

      3. Plus 45 degrees.

    3. Final Pass

      4. Plus 15 degrees.

  11. Install the oil pickup tube.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pickup tube bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  12. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .

  13. Release and pivot the generator into place and install the generator lower mounting bolt.

    14. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  14. Position the A/C compressor and the power steering pump bracket.
  15. Install the A/C compressor and the power steering pump bracket bolts.

    16. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C compressor bracket bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  16. Install the rear timing belt cover. Refer to Timing Belt Rear Cover Replacement .

    Important: The oil pump bolts must be tightened to the appropriate specifications AFTER the generator mounting bolts and the drive belt idler pulley for the camshafts 3 and 4 have been tightened to the specifications to allow for the proper compression of the oil pump gasket.

  17. Install and tighten the drive belt idler pulley for camshafts 3 and 4. Tighten the oil pump bolts.

    18. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  18. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  19. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.0L.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable.

    21. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  21. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Engine Coolant Check and Replacement in Engine Cooling.
