    • J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter
    • J 42065 Crank Hub Holding Tool
    • J 42098 Crank Hub TORX® Socket
    • J 35268-A Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer

    Important: Do not cover and/or restrict the gasket openings and oil passages with sealant. Only apply sealant to the crosshatched area of the gasket as shown in the illustration.

  1. Coat only the pump side of the new oil pump gasket with a thin, even coating of GM P/N 1052942 or equivalent.
  2. Install the oil pump gasket.

  4. Install the oil pump and align with the guide pins (2).
  5. Coat the new oil pump bolts with GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent.

  6. Object Number: 345868  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the oil pump bolts. Tighten in the sequence shown.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  9. Install the collar.
  10. Coat the lip of the front main oil seal with a small amount of GM P/N 12377985 chassis grease, or equivalent, to aid in installation.
  11. Install the front main oil seal.
  12. Use the J 35268-A to tap the front main oil seal into place.
  13. Ensure the front main oil seal if fully and evenly seated.

  14. Install the crankshaft drive gear.
  15. Install a new crankshaft drive gear bolt.
  16. Tighten
    Use the J 42098 to tighten the crankshaft drive gear bolt, while counterholding the crankshaft drive gear with the J 42065 to 250 N·m (184 lb ft).

  17. Use the J 36660-A to tighten the crankshaft drive gear bolt in the following sequence:
  18. Tighten

    1. The first pass rotate the crankshaft drive gear bolt 45 degrees.
    2. The second and the final pass rotate the crankshaft drive gear bolt an additional 15 degrees.

    Important: The oil pump bolts must be re-tightened AFTER the generator mounting bolt has been tightened to specifications to allow for uniform compression of the oil pump gasket.

  19. Temporarily mount the generator and install the generator lower mounting bolt (3).
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the generator lower mounting bolt (3) to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  21. Re-tighten the oil pump bolts. Tighten in the sequence shown.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  23. Remove the generator bolt and the generator.

    • J 42065 Crank Hub Holding Tool
    • J 42098 Crank Hub TORX Socket

  1. Install the oil pump gasket.

  2. Object Number: 894795  Size: SH
  3. Install the oil pump and align with the guide pins. Ensure that the mating surface is clean and free of oil or grease.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Apply Permatex Threadlocker Blue P/N 21485278, or equivalent, to oil the pump bolts and install the bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Install the oil pump collar.
  8. Install the front main oil seal. Coat the lip of the front main oil seal with a small amount of clean engine oil in order to aid in installation.
  9. Use the J 35268-A to install the front main oil seal.
  10. Ensure that the front main oil seal is fully and evenly seated.

  11. Object Number: 894304  Size: SH

    Notice: The oil pump bolts must be re-tightened after the generator mounting bolt has been tightened to specifications to allow for uniform compression of the oil pump gasket.

  12. Temporarily mount the generator and install the generator mounting bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  14. Tighten the oil pump bolts in sequence.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pump bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  16. Remove the generator bolts and the generator.
  17. Lubricate the new oil pump pickup tube O-ring with motor oil.
  18. Install the oil pan baffle.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

    Important: Ensure that the oil pump pickup tube O-Ring is installed prior to pickup tube installation.

  20. Install the oil pump pickup tube.
  21. Install the oil pump pickup tube bolts.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pickup tube bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
