An isolated independent rear suspension is used on Saturn LS/LW vehicles. The suspension consists of two coil over the shock carriers, suspension support, four lateral control arms, and two rear axle control arms (trailing links). The carrier assemblies consist of a conventional shock absorber and coil spring.
The carrier mounts to the body and the rear axle control arm to provide vertical shock dampening and ride comfort.
The rear axle control arm (trailing links) provide for/aft stability of the vehicle. They also incorporate a rear knuckle and provide the toe adjustment for the rear suspension.
The suspension support and lateral control arms will provide side-to-side stability of the vehicle. The suspension support is isolated from the body with rubber bushings to provide a quiet and comfortable ride.
Although the rear suspension components are lubricated for life and require no routine lubrication, they should be inspected periodically for damage and wear. Refer to Specifications Quick Reference Guide in the Mini-Specifications Handbook for scheduled inspection intervals.
