Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 891972 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    2. Notice: Plug open brake pipes to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  2. Disconnect the brake pipe nuts from the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV).

    3. Object Number: 891660 Size: SH

    Notice: After removing brake pipe nuts, do not excessively pull or bend brake pipes away from master cylinder.

    Notice: Plug open brake pipes to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  3. Disconnect the brake pipe nuts from the master cylinder.
  4. Slide out the locking tab and disconnect the electronic brake and traction control module (EBTCM) electrical connector.

    Notice: Do not bend brake pipes.

  5. Remove the ABS control module mounting nuts and the bracket.
  6. Remove the ABS control module from the vehicle.

Disassembly Procedure

    Important: Do not attempt to repair a damaged solenoid pack or control unit assemblies. Repair of these assemblies is not possible. Do not lubricate or oil the EBTCM.

  1. Disconnect the pump motor electrical connector.
  2. Remove the EBTCM to BPMV screws.
  3. Separate the EBTCM from the BPMV.

Assembly Procedure
  1. Position the EBTCM on the BPMV.
  2. Install the attaching screws.
  3. Connect the pump motor electrical connector.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Position the ABS control assembly into the bracket and tighten the nuts.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the ABS control assembly-to-bracket nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  2. Position the brake pipes into the master cylinder and tighten the brake pipe nuts.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipes-to-master cylinder to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  3. Position the brake pipes into the ABS control assembly and tighten the brake pipe nuts.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipes-to-master cylinder to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Important: Ensure that all the electrical connections are fully seated and the latches are engaged.

    Important: If the EBTCM was replaced, make sure to program the correct engine and transaxle options in the EBTCM. Refer to option bit configuration with Scan tools.

  4. Install the electrical connector to the ABS control assembly.
  5. Install the negative battery cable.
  6. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with clean brake fluid up to the "MAX" mark on the reservoir.

    7. Important: It is not required or recommended to bleed the ABS controller. Automated bleeding of the ABS controller may induce air into the system. Perform "Base Brake Bleeding" or "Pressure Bleeding" procedure only .

  7. Bleed the brakes. Refer to "Base Brake Bleeding" procedure in this service manual .
