Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.
Important: Make the adjustment with the
front wheels raised and the steering wheel centered.
- Use the Steering Gear Adjuster Lock Nut Socket inserted over the stabilizer
bar and into the points of the lock nut to loosen the steering gear adjuster lock
nut.
- Turn the adjuster plug clockwise until it bottoms in the steering gear
housing.
- Tighten the steering gear adjuster plug.
Tighten
Tighten the steering gear adjuster plug to 12 N·m
(106 lb in).
- Back-off the adjuster plug 35 degrees, ± 5 degrees,
approximately half of one flat of nut.
- Mark the adjuster plug location, so that you can inspect the plug position
after Step 6.
- Torque the lock nut with special tool Steering Gear Adjuster Lock Nut
Socket.
Tighten
Tighten the steering gear pre-load adjuster plug
lock nut to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).
- Inspect the mark you made. If different, repeat procedure.
- Inspect the steering wheel returnability after the adjustment.
