Power Steering Hose Replacement L81

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 891800  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering reservoir cap.
  2. Place an approved drain container under the power steering lines at the steering gear.
  3. Remove the power steering lines from the steering gear and allow the system to drain.
  4. Remove the power steering lines from the transaxle attachment point.

  5. Object Number: 891805  Size: SH
  6. Remove the power steering gear return line from the reservoir.

  7. Object Number: 891811  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the hose from the left side cylinder head.
  9. Remove the power steering high pressure line from the power steering pump.
  10. Remove lines from vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 891813  Size: SH
  12. Remove the power steering pump feed line from the reservoir.
  13. Remove the power steering pump feed line from the pump.

  14. Object Number: 891800  Size: SH
  15. If replacing only one hose, drill out the rivets connecting the hoses.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Rivets are not necessary for installation of hoses.


    Object Number: 891800  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering lines into the vehicle.
  2. Attach the power steering lines to the steering gear and the transaxle bracket.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering lines-to-steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  4. Install the power steering gear return hose to the reservoir.

  5. Object Number: 891811  Size: SH
  6. Install the hose to the left cylinder head.
  7. Install the power steering high pressure hose to pump.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering high pressure line-to-pump to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  9. Install the power steering pump line to the pump feed.
  10. Install the power steering pump line to the reservoir feed.
  11. Fill the power steering pump fluid reservoir with clean power steering fluid GM P/N 9985010.
  12. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 891800  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering reservoir cap.
  2. Place an approved drain container under the power steering lines at the steering gear.
  3. Remove the power steering lines from the steering gear and allow the system to drain.
  4. Remove the power steering lines from the transaxle attachment point.

  5. Object Number: 891805  Size: SH
  6. Remove the power steering gear return line from the reservoir.

  7. Object Number: 891811  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the hose from the left side cylinder head.
  9. Remove the power steering high pressure line from the power steering pump.
  10. Remove lines from vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 891813  Size: SH
  12. Remove the power steering pump feed line from the reservoir.
  13. Remove the power steering pump feed line from the pump.

  14. Object Number: 891800  Size: SH
  15. If replacing only one hose, drill out the rivets connecting the hoses.

  1. Install the power steering lines into the vehicle.
  2. Attach the power steering lines to the steering gear and the transaxle bracket.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering lines-to-steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft)

  4. Install the power steering gear return hose to the reservoir.

  5. Object Number: 891755  Size: SH
  6. Install the hose to the left cylinder head.
  7. Install the power steering high pressure hose to pump.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering high pressure line-to-pump to 27 N·m (20 lb ft)


    Object Number: 891794  Size: SH
  9. Install the power steering pump line to the pump feed.
  10. Install the power steering pump line to the reservoir feed.
  11. Fill the power steering pump fluid reservoir with clean power steering fluid GM P/N 9985010.
  12. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
