Tools Required
J 36660-A Torque/Angle
Meter
- Install the crankshaft bearings to engine block.
- Install the crankshaft sensor ring.
- Install the crankshaft sensor bolts.
Use new crankshaft sensor bolts.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft sensor ring bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the crankshaft to the engine block.
- Apply Engine Oil Supplement (EOS), GM P/N 1052367,
to the bearing surfaces.
- Install the main bearings to the main bearing caps.
- Apply RTV sealer, GM P/N 12345739
or equivalent, in the groove on the side of the fourth main bearing cap.
- Install the main bearing
caps to the engine block. Place the main bearing caps in numerical order.
- Install the crankshaft bearing bridge.
- Use new main bearing cap bolts or damage may occur when the final
tightening is performed.
- Install the main bearing cap bolts loosely.
- Back off the crankshaft
bearing bridge adjusting sleeves until the bushings do not contact the engine
block when the bridge is fully seated.
Tighten
Tighten the main bearing cap bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Use the J 36660-A
to rotate the main bearing cap bolts in the following sequence:
Tighten
- The first pass rotate the main bearing cap bolts 60 degrees.
- The second and the final pass rotate the main bearing cap bolts
an additional 15 degrees.
- Adjust the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves until the
bushings firmly contact the engine block.
- Install the crankshaft
bearing bridge bolts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft bearing bridge bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
