Care of Compact Disc
| • | Handle your CDs carefully. Handle CDs by touching only the outer edge
and the edge of the hole in the center of the CD. Avoid toughing the signal surface
of the CD (the glossy, non printed "silver" side) because thick fingerprints
and scratches will interrupt the readout. |
| • | Store your CDs in their original cases or other protective cases. This
helps to keep the CDs away from direct sunlight, dirt, dust, and debris. |
| • | Do not attach a label or tape to a CD. |
| • | Always check both sides of the CD for scratches and signs of wear. Avoid
using scratched or damaged CDs. |
| • | Never mark the outside rim of a CD with a marker. |
| • | Make sure to clean your CDs periodically. |
Cleaning a Compact Disc
If the surface of a CD is dirty or has fingerprints on it, clean the CD with
a clean, damp, soft, lint-free cloth and a mild neutral detergent solution. Wipe the
CD in a straight line from the center hole outward toward the edge. Avoid using cleaning
solutions which may damage the CD like chemical cleaning cloths, benzene, thinner,
or spray. While cleaning the CD, avoid touching the signal surface of the CD because
thick fingerprints and scratches will interrupt the readout. Scratches on the label
side will also affect the sound.
Care and Cleaning of the Radio Faceplate
The radio front face and buttons will look their best if they are cleaned properly
from time to time. Use a water-damped cloth with a mild soap to remove dirt. Do not
use an harsh cleaners or chemicals as they may cause irreversible damage.
Cleaning the radio or CD player internally is not recommended. The CD less is
very sensitive to scratches. If one small abrasive particle is accidentally brushed
across the lens, the radio or CD player will no longer operate.
