Parking Brake Cable Replacement Handle to Equalizer

Removal Procedure

  1. Disengage the console park brake boot by squeezing the boot on the sides while pulling upward.

  2. Object Number: 891761  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the park brake adjuster nut to provide adequate slack in the park brake cable.
  4. Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

  6. Object Number: 891510  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the exhaust resonator from the exhaust manifold pipe.

  8. Object Number: 892074  Size: SH
  9. Remove the exhaust pipe to the body isolators.
  10. Lower the exhaust resonator pipe and the muffler assembly from the vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 892075  Size: SH
  12. Remove the exhaust heat shield.

  13. Object Number: 891922  Size: SH
  14. Remove the front park brake cable from the equalizer.
  15. Remove the front park brake cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 891922  Size: SH
  1. Install the front park brake cable into the equalizer.

  2. Object Number: 891761  Size: SH
  3. Lower the vehicle and adjust the nut to take up the slack in the cable.
  4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 892075  Size: SH
  6. Install the exhaust heat shield.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the heat shield-to-body fasteners to 4 N·m (35 lb in).


    Object Number: 891510  Size: SH
  8. Install the exhaust onto the vehicle and tighten the resonator to the exhaust manifold pipe fasteners.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the resonator pipe-to-exhaust manifold pipe to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  10. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
  11. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Equalizer to Rear Corners

Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Remove the park brake boot by squeezing the boot on the sides while pulling upwards.

  3. Object Number: 891761  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the park brake adjuster nut to provide ample slack in the park brake cable.
  5. Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

  7. Object Number: 891510  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the exhaust resonator from the exhaust manifold pipe.
  9. Remove the exhaust pipe-to-body insulators
  10. Lower the exhaust resonator pipe and the muffler assembly from the vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 892075  Size: SH
  12. Remove the exhaust heat shield.

  13. Object Number: 891919  Size: SH
  14. Disengage the park brake cable from the rear park brake cable and discard the clips. New clips must be used whenever disconnected.

  15. Object Number: 891922  Size: SH
  16. Disengage the front park brake cable from the equalizer.

  17. Object Number: 891924  Size: SH
  18. Remove the cable from the body attachment points.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 891924  Size: SH
  1. Attach the park brake cable to the body attaching points.

  2. Object Number: 891919  Size: SH

    Important: New clips must be used to attach the park brake cable to the rear park brake cable as retention of old clips is not sufficient.

  3. Using new clips, attach the brake cable to the rear park brake cable.

  4. Object Number: 891922  Size: SH
  5. Attach the front park brake to the equalizer.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 892075  Size: SH
  7. Install the exhaust heat shield and the fasteners.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust heat shield-to-body fasteners to 4 N·m (35 lb in).


    Object Number: 891510  Size: SH
  9. Install the exhaust system and tighten the fasteners.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the resonator pipe-to-exhaust manifold pipe to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
  12. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Rear Corner- Disc

Removal Procedure

  1. Disengage the console park brake boot by squeezing the boot on the sides while pulling upward.

  2. Object Number: 891761  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the park brake adjusting nut to allow slack in the cable.
  4. Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

  6. Object Number: 891919  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the rear park brake cable to the front park brake cable and discard the clip.
  8. Remove the park brake cable return spring from the backing plate and remove the cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 891919  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake cable onto the park brake actuator and install the return spring.
  2. Important: A new attachment clip must be used whenever the park brake cables are disconnected.

  3. Using a new clip, attach the rear park brake cable to the front park brake cable.
  4. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  5. Install the park brake boot.
  6. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.

Parking Brake Cable Replacement Rear Corner - Drum

Removal Procedure

  1. Disengage the console park brake boot by squeezing the boot on the sides while pulling upward.

  2. Object Number: 891761  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the park brake adjusting nut to allow slack in the cable.
  4. Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  6. Disassembly the rear drum brakes. Refer to Rear Drum Brake Disassemble .

  7. Object Number: 891919  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the rear park brake cable to the front park brake cable and discard the clip.

  9. Object Number: 891826  Size: SH
  10. Remove the park brake cable from the backing plate.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 891919  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake cable onto the backing plate.
  2. Important: A new attachment clip must be used whenever the park brake cables are disconnected.

  3. Using a new clip, attach the rear park brake cable to the front park brake cable.
  4. Assemble the rear drum brakes. Refer to Rear Drum Brake Assemble .
  5. Notice: Refer to Wheel Installation Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Install the wheel and the tire assemblies onto the hub.
  7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  8. Install the wheel bolts and tighten in a crisscross pattern.
  9. 5.1. Hand tighten all 5 wheel bolts.
    5.2. Use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel bolts using a crisscross pattern.

    Tighten
    Tighten the wheel bolts (initial torque) to 63 N·m (46 lb ft).

    5.3. Use a torque wrench to final tighten the wheel bolts using a crisscross pattern.

    Tighten
    Tighten the wheel bolts (final torque) to 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

  10. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
  11. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
