Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
- Disable the SIR System. Refer to LINK in SIR.
- Turn the steering wheel to the 3 o'clock position.
- Remove the inflator module by inserting a stubby flat-blade screwdriver
into the triangle-shaped hole in the rear steering wheel shroud.
- Turn the screwdriver to release the spring fastener, while lifting up
on the corner of the bag closest to that fastener.
- Repeat for the second fastener.
- Turn the steering wheel to 9 o'clock position.
- Repeat steps 4-5 until all spring fasteners are released.
- Disconnect the inflator module harness and the horn lead.
- Remove the inflator module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Disconnect the cruise control and switch
connection, if equipped. Disconnect the harness from the steering wheel.
- Remove the steering wheel attachment nut and discard the nut.
- Install
the J 1859-A
and the J 42578
.
Important:
• | Always align the front wheels to the straight-ahead position when installing
or removing a roll connector. |
• | If the yellow tab is not available, use tape to prevent the SIR coil from
rotating. |
- Insert the yellow tab or use a piece of tape to prevent rotating the SIR coil.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the yellow tab or tape from the SIR coil assembly.
- Route the wiring through the steering wheel and install the steering wheel
onto the steering shaft noting the orientation notch that locates the steering wheel
in the correct position.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Important: A new steering wheel attachment nut must
be used.
- Install a NEW steering wheel attachment nut.
Tighten
Tighten the steering wheel nut to 40 N·m
(30 lb ft).
- If equipped, connect the cruise control
and switch connectors. Attach the harness to the wheel.
- Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Connect the inflator module wiring harness and the horn lead. Be sure
to install the connector position assurance (CPA) device.
- Align the inflator module to the steering wheel and press to install.
Be sure to seat all 4 attachment points.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to LINK in SIR.
