Circuit Description

The EBCM performs several self-tests for internal problems which may affect proper operation. The ABS control module controls valve function by grounding the solenoid circuit when necessary.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ABS control module detects an open, short to ground, or short to voltage on the solenoid circuit(s) inside the control module.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The EBCM disables the ABS/DRP/TCS.
    • The ABS indicator turns ON.
    • The traction off indicator turns on.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

Certain conditions that may cause this DTC to set cannot be cleared. Other conditions that may cause this DTC to set may be cleared, at least temporarily, by using the scan tool Clear DTCs function.

Diagnostic Aids

Replace the EBCM if this DTC continues to set intermittently.

Use a scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.

Can the DTC be cleared?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the DTC reset?

Go to Step 4

Important: New ABS control modules will automatically set DTC C0551 when installed. To clear DTC C0551, new modules must be configured with the correct engine and transmission option bit. Refer to "ABS Programming" in the on Scan tool.

Replace the EBCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement .

Go to Step 5

  1. Use the scan tool to clear the DTCs.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition for 5 seconds.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.

Does the DTC reset?

Go to Step 3
