Camshaft Cover Replacement Front

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 896437  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 896462  Size: SH
  4. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  5. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor electrical connection.

  6. Object Number: 894329  Size: SH
  7. Remove the ignition module.
  8. Remove the oil filler cap.

  9. Object Number: 894853  Size: SH
  10. Remove the lift bracket.
  11. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
  12. Remove the camshaft cover.

  13. Object Number: 895914  Size: SH
  14. Remove the camshaft cover seals.
  15. Important: Ensure all 8 sealing O-rings are accounted for. The O-rings may stick to the camshaft bearing caps or they may fall into the oil pan.

  16. Clean the camshaft cover.
  17. Clean the sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 895914  Size: SH

    Important: The intake camshaft is marked with the letter A and the exhaust camshaft is marked with the letter E.

  1. Lightly coat the new seals, including the O-rings, with engine oil prior to installation to assist in holding the O-ring seals to the camshaft cover.
  2. Install the camshaft cover seals.

  3. Object Number: 895915  Size: SH
  4. Apply a thin coat of LOCTITE® 5900 or equivalent on the front and rear of the camshaft cover as shown in the figure as the shaded areas.
  5. Install the camshaft cover to the cylinder head.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install the camshaft cover bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  9. Install the oil filler cap.
  10. Install the lift bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the engine lift bracket bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  12. Install the ignition module.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition module bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  14. Connect the crankshaft position sensor electrical connection.
  15. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  16. Install the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement .
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  19. Start the engine and inspect for oil leaks.

Camshaft Cover Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 894811  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement .
  3. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  4. Remove the ignition module.
  5. Remove the knock sensor wire harness.

  6. Object Number: 894855  Size: SH
  7. Remove the lift bracket.
  8. Remove the camshaft cover bolts.
  9. Remove the camshaft cover.

  10. Object Number: 895914  Size: SH
  11. Remove the camshaft cover seals.
  12. Important: Ensure all 8 sealing O-rings are accounted for. The O-rings may stick to the camshaft bearing caps or they may fall into the oil pan.

  13. Clean the camshaft cover.
  14. Clean all of the sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  2. Object Number: 895915  Size: SH
  3. Install the camshaft cover seals.
  4. Apply a thin coat of LOCTITE® 5900 or equivalent at the front and back of the camshaft cover as shown in the figure as the shaded areas.

  5. Object Number: 894855  Size: SH
  6. Install the camshaft cover to the cylinder head.
  7. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  8. Install the camshaft cover bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  10. Install the lift bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the engine lift bracket bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  12. Install the ignition module.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition module bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  14. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  15. Install the intake plenum. Refer to Intake Plenum Replacement .
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  18. Start the engine and inspect for oil leaks.
