Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.
Important: Record all pre-set radio stations.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
Important: The exhaust system remains hot for extended
periods of time.
- Remove the 2 belt tensioner to engine block bolts and the tensioner.
- Remove the upper generator to engine to block bolts.
Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
- Turn the steering wheel into a right turn for access to the lower generator
bolt.
- Remove the lower generator bolt.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Separate the generator from the engine block.
- Disconnect the 2 generator electrical connectors and remove the
generator.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Lower the generator into the engine compartment and connect the generator electrical
connections.
Tighten
Tighten the B+ cable to generator nut to 16 N·m
(12 lb ft).
- Guide the generator into the engine block with the upper mounting bolt
positioned in the generator mounting hole.
- Position the generator and install the upper mounting bolts and finger
tighten.
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Install the lower generator mounting bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Tighten the upper generator mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 40 N·m
(30 lb ft).
- Install the belt tensioner to the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the belt tensioner bolts to 40 N·m
(30 lb ft).
- Install the accessory drive belt.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 N·m
(13 lb ft).
- Reprogram the radio stations.
