This DTC indicates that the engine control module (ECM) received a message from the transmission control module (TCM) to turn ON the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) telltale due to a transmission related OBD 2 failure. The ECM will send a message via the controller area network (CAN) link to the body control module (BCM) who will send a message over the class 2 link to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to turn ON the MIL.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P0700 Transmission Control Module (TCM) Requested MIL Illumination
• | The engine is running. |
• | DTC P0700 runs continuously once the above conditions are met. |
DTC P0700 will set if the ECM received a MIL request message from the TCM over the CAN link for more than 5 seconds.
• | The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails. |
• | The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records. |
• | The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail. |
• | A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes. |
• | A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic. |
• | Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool. |
