Rear License Plate Rattles when Traveling Over Rough Road Surfaces

Subject:Rear License Plate Rattles When Traveling Over Rough Roads Surfaces (Install All Four License Plate Attachment Bolts and Fully Tighten). Due to addition of the 2002 model year under models affected, this bulletin has been revised and supersedes bulletin 99-T-36, which should be discarded.

Models:2000 -- 2002 Saturn L- Series vehicles.



Condition

Customer may comment about a rattle type noise that seems to be coming from rear of vehicle when traveling over rough road surfaces.

This condition may also be noticed during the pre-delivery inspection (PDI) at Saturn Retailers.

Cause

Rear license plate may be loose due to all four bolts not being installed and/or fully tighten.

Correction

Install all four rear license plate attachment bolts to correct and prevent any potential rear license plate rattles.

When installing a rear license plate on L-Series vehicles during the PDI process, make sure to install and fully tighten all four rear license plate attachment bolts provided with vehicle.
