Six-Disc Radio Will Not Load, Eject and/or Play Compact Discs (CDs) (Remove and Reinstall Radio Fuses)

Subject:Six-Disc Radio Will Not Load, Eject and/or Play Compact Discs (CDs) (Remove and Reinstall Radio Fuses)

Models:2002-2003 Saturn L-Series & VUE Vehicles with Six-Disc Radio (RPO UR9 or UB2)
2003 Saturn ION Vehicles with Six-Disc Radio (RPO UR9)

Attention: Technician

Condition

Some customers may comment that the six-disc radio will not load, eject and/or play CD's.

Cause

If a disc is not properly loaded into the six-disc radio unit, the radio unit may shut down the compact disc operation which includes loading, ejecting and/or playing of the compact discs.

Correction

Important: Advise customers on the proper loading and ejecting procedures as described in the Owner's Handbook for the six-disc player. The radio should then be able to eject and load compact discs.

Service Procedure:

  1. Record radio presets.
  2. Turn key to "OFF"
  3. The following are the fuses for each vehicle line:

    L-Series:

"Radio" & "CD/DLC" fuse in under hood fuse block (UHFB).

"Radio" fuse in left instrument panel fuse block (LIPFB).

    VUE:

"Radio" & "Radio (Ign)" fuse in instrument panel fuse block (IPFB).

    ION:

"Radio (ACC)" & "Radio (BATT1)" fuse in body control module (BCM).

  4. Remove appropriate six-disc radio fuse(s) for at least five seconds and then reinstall.
  5. After removing and reinstalling the fuse(s), the radio will perform an internal diagnostic procedure. If no diagnostic codes are present, verify proper operation of the six-disc radio. (Refer to the Playing a Compact Disc (CD) in the Six-Disc In-Dash CD Player procedures in the "Comfort Controls and Audio Systems" section of the Owner's Handbook).
  6. Verify that compact discs will now load, play and eject from six-disc unit.
  7. If compact discs will still not load, play and/or eject, check for Radio Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If radio DTC's are present, refer to the appropriate Service Manual.
  8. Reset radio presets and correct time.
