Subject: | Rear Door Will Not Open (Reinstall Spring) |
Condition
Some customers may comment that a rear side door will not open using the inside or outside handle when the child security feature is not engaged.
Cause
A spring may have been incorrectly installed from the manufacturer and is out of position. Refer to the illustration above.
Correction
Reinstall the spring correctly following the procedure below.
- Remove the rear side door pull handle cover and two screws.
- Remove the screw in the inside door handle cup.
- Pull upward and inward at the top of the door trim pad to disengage the trim from the top of the door. Refer to the illustration above.
- Pull inward on the door trim to disengage the trim panel from the door.
- Disengage the door lock cable.
- Remove the water deflector.
- Remove the rear run channel bolt and remove the run channel.
- Locate the linkage on the lock and rotate it upward. Hold the linkage while opening the door. Refer to the illustration above.
- Remove the lock from the door.
- Reinstall the spring in its proper position. Refer to the illustration above.
- Install the rear run channel. Ensure that the upper and lower channel clip together.
- Reinstall the water deflector.
- Reinstall the door lock cable.
- Reinstall the door trim and screws.
