This service update includes vehicles in dealer/retailer inventory and customer vehicles that return for any type of service, and will expire at the end of the involved vehicle's New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

Purpose

This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect, and if necessary, replace the console-mounted switch housing on certain 2007 GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook vehicles.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer/retailer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer/retailer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

Vehicles Involved

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer/retailer inventory will be available in GM DealerWorld, through the Service Update Bulletin Information link under the Service tab (GM and Saturn US) or Dealer Communication (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.

Important: Dealers/retailers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the system(s) below. Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

-- GM dealers and Canadian Saturn Saab retailers should use GMVIS.

-- US Saturn retailers should use the AS/400 system.

Service Procedure

Console-Mounted Switch Functional Test

Inspect the console-mounted switch (in the front of the console switch housing) for binding or sticking by manually cycling each switch five times.

   • 

If switch binding or sticking is not noted, no further action is required.

   • 

If switch binding or sticking is noted, replace the switch housing with revised parts that have an improved switch retention system. Refer to Console-Mounted Switch Housing Replacement below

Console-Mounted Switch Housing Replacement

  1. Block the wheels and place the vehicle transmission in Neutral.

  2. Object Number: 1914058  Size: SH
  3. Remove the console trim plate by unsnapping it from the console cap.

  4. Object Number: 1914056  Size: MF
  5. Remove the two housing screws (1) that attach the housing to the console cap. Pull the housing away from the console cap.
  6. Cut any tie straps (1) that may be attached to the switch and housing assembly.
  7. Without removing the harness from the switch, unsnap the switches from the housing. Remove the old housing from the vehicle.
  8. Snap the switches into the new housing.
  9. Install the housing in the console cap with the two attachment screws.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the two attachment screws to 2 N·m(18 in lb).

  11. Install the console trim plate by snapping it onto the console.
  12. Place the vehicle transmission in Park and check all switches for proper operation.
