The purpose of this service bulletin is to provide information regarding the installation of a new service replacement rear liftgate sill trim plate.

A design change to the rear liftgate sill trim plate took place in December 2007. This change includes longer support bosses to the underside of the sill plate. A new service replacement sill trim plate may require that the carpet mat and padding be trimmed. DO NOT replace the rear floor carpet.

Rear Liftgate Sill Trim Plate Removal and Installation Procedure

Important: It may be necessary to trim the rear carpet to fit the service replacement sill plate.

Cut holes in the rear carpet to provide clearance for the eight longer bosses using the steps below.

  1. Remove the old rear liftgate sill trim plate assembly (1) by using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool in order to release the clips (2).
  2. 1.1. Open the center rear compartment storage bin door.
    1.2. Remove the left rear compartment storage tray panel.
    1.3. Remove the right rear compartment storage tray panel.

  3. Compare the old sill plate to the new sill plate and identify the eight longer bosses (1).
  4. Position the new rear liftgate door sill trim plate to the rear floor of the vehicle.
  5. Locate the areas in the carpet and padding that will require trimming.
  6. 4.1. Begin to install the new rear liftgate sill trim plate.
    4.2. Gently push down on the new sill plate.
    4.3. Remove the sill plate.
    4.4. Locate the depressions in the carpet. If the depressions are not visible, you may use a touch up paint on the eight longer bosses and repeat Steps 4.1-4.4.

  7. Cut out the depressions or marks in the carpet and padding to 50 mm (2 in) slots or circles until the floor panel is visible as shown.
  8. Install the new rear liftgate sill trim plate and seat the retaining clips. If the sill plate is difficult to install or the clips will not retain, revise the rear carpet trimline by cutting 25 mm (1 in) along the rear edge of the carpet.
