It has been found on some vehicles that the spare tire lug wrench provided with the vehicle will not fit on the hoist shaft. This may be due to the spare tire hoist shaft not being centered in the opening. If the lug wrench does not fit onto the shaft, perform the following steps:

  1. Use a thin wall socket to lower the spare tire.
  2. Remove the spare tire.
  3. Loosen the two mounting bolts for the spare tire hoist.
  4. Move the spare tire hoist until the shaft is centered in the opening of the floor pan.
  5. Tighten the spare tire hoist mounting bolts. The torque specification is 18 lb ft (25 N·m).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Make sure the shaft is still centered in the opening of the floor pan.
  8. Reinstall the spare tire using the lug wrench that is provided with the vehicle.
