Service AWD Lamp On DTC C0394 - keywords code intermittent MIL

This PI was superseded to update models and model years. Please discard PIP4100.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Customer may comment that the service all wheel drive (AWD) lamp comes on, technician's may find DTC C0394 current or in history.

Possible cause may be wire chafing caused by mis-routed temperature sensor wiring harness.

Follow published eSI diagnostics for DTC c0394, if diagnostics lead to clutch drum replacement or are inconclusive follow the instructions listed below.

1. Remove the torque tube/RDM assembly and separate the tube from the drum using eSI document #1849483.
2. Inspect the wiring harness for chafing (see photo 1).



3. If the wire is found to be chafed remove the drum using eSI document #1857172.
4. Wrap the harness at least 2 times using 50mm (2 inches) of electrical tape.
5. Reinstall the clutch drum using above eSI documentation making sure to properly route the harness (see photo 2).



6. Replace the gasket between the torque tube and RDM using part number 15839531 and reinstall the torque tube RDM assembly using eSI document listed above.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
