This bulletin is being revised to provide field fix information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin 07-02-32-003 (Section 02 -- Steering).
Some customers may comment on a power steering clunk or knock type noise while driving at slow speeds.
Based on recent information provided from the field, GM Engineering has determined the cause of this concern to be the intermediate shaft. Previous repair attempts may have temporarily corrected the customer's concern by moving the intermediate shaft enough to redistribute the grease on the shaft.
DO NOT REPLACE THE POWER STEERING GEAR.
DO NOT ORDER REPLACEMENT I-SHAFTS UNTIL THE NEW PART IS AVAILABLE.
A new design intermediate shaft is currently on order from the supplier. As an interim fix, fully exercise the I-shaft to redistribute the grease. When parts become available, this bulletin will be updated with the part information.
Advise the customer that this is not a safety concern and that GM is waiting to receive the new part from the supplier.
Keep a list of customers and VINs with this concern so the dealer can notify the customers when new parts are available.
